No Wonder They Call Them the Blue Lakes

点评：We did this hike on August 1. We arrived at the parking lot (road wasn't too bad getting there in an SUV) at sunrise and started hiking at 6:30am. We didn't see anybody else on the way up to the first lake, which took us a little under 2 hours to reach.
Lower Blue Lake is absolutely stunning and definitely the main attraction of this hike. A lot of people I'm sure only make it to this lake and turn around, which would be a worthy destination. We enjoyed the views from the shoreline for about 45 min.
We headed up the very steep trail to Middle Blue Lake. On the way up you get incredible views of Lower Blue Lake below you, views which show the lake at its finest. At Middle Blue Lake, the color is fairly blue too but not quite as brilliant. You are completely above treeline here.
We continued up to Upper Blue Lake which we thought was nicer than Middle Blue Lake. A few people were fishing in the lake. We continued up a couple of switchbacks towards Blue Lakes Pass before we finally turned around.
All told we clocked the hike at just under 10 mi. RT and it took us about 7 hours to complete. It's hard to decide whether we liked this hike or nearby Ice Lakes Basin better. This one certainly gives Ice Lakes Basin a run for its money, and if you're able, try to do both if you're visiting the glorious San Juans of CO!
