My husband and I visited Alcatraz Island departing from Pier 33, not far from the more famous and busier Pier 39. We had booked well in advance to avoid missing the chance to visit the island, since access is only possible by ferry, which arrives and departs at regular intervals.
The ferry ride takes about 16 minutes, and there are seating areas both inside and outside the boat.
The visit lasts approximately 2.5 to 3 hours. Once on the island, there is a short briefing where a guide explains how to move around the site. Automatic audio guides are provided in the desired language, and the narration starts automatically whenever you reach a point of interest.
What you can see inside is truly interesting, and the explanations are very well done.
In my opinion, it is definitely worth visiting, always keeping in mind the historical significance of the place.

La prenotazione l'avevamo fatta con notevole anticipo per evitare di perdere la possibilità di visitare l'isola visto che si accede solo con il traghetto che arriva e riparte ad intervalli regolari. Il viaggio con il traghetto dura circa 16 minuti e ci sono posti a sedere sia all'interno che all'esterno dell'imbarcazione
La visita dura circa 2,5-3 ore. Arrivati sull'isola c'è un piccolo briefing dove una guida spiega come muoversi sull'isola. Vengono fornite delle audioguide automatiche nella lingua desiderata. La descrizione parte in automatico quando ci si trova davanti al sito d'interesse.
Quello che si vede all'interno è davvero interessante e anche la spiegazione è ben fatta.
Una visita secondo me la merita, ricordando sempre dove ci si trova.
