Small Print, Small Minds: How a Spa Dishonoured a Simple Prepaid Ticket

点评：Sixteen months ago, I purchased a standard admission ticket — a prepaid contract for spa entry, not a voucher or gift certificate — with no stated expiration date. Life circumstances delayed my visit until this past weekend.
I also held a 2025 pre-purchased admission that included a complimentary guest entry valid until June 19.
At the door, my two daughters and I were informed that the complimentary admission was not valid on Saturdays or select dates. To my knowledge, the only restriction explicitly communicated at the time of purchase was the June 19 expiration and holiday exclusions.
More troubling was being told my 2024 prepaid admission would not be honoured at its original purchase price — I would need to pay the difference based on today's rates. The dollar amount was minor. The principle was not. A prepaid admission ticket is a completed transaction, not an open credit subject to price adjustments. This is both a matter of basic contract law and a well-established standard in hospitality and wellness: you honour what was sold and prepaid.
Compounding the frustration, portions of the outdoor grounds were closed that day, pushing guests into a smaller area and creating noticeable overcrowding in spaces like the new indoor beach and other zones better suited to reading or a nap.
When I flagged these concerns at checkout, the response was that prices go up — like groceries. The analogy is flawed. Groceries are not prepaid. This was.
What was intended as a restorative day became an exercise in grievance. That is a failure no spa should be comfortable with.
