点评:Taos Pueblo was our backup place to visit when Kashe-Katuwe Tent Rocks National Monument was closed due to emergency flashflood damages in October. Fortunately, Taos Pueblo was open. There is a complimentary dirt road parking lot in the back of the Ticket Office and you will be directed there upon entering. It is only about 3-5 minute walk from your car to the Ticket Office to purchase the mandatory guided group tour and meet up with the next group at the Main Church. It is a one hour guided tour with a local native of the area.
She walked us to three locations within the Taos Pueblo to describe the original church and area that burned, viewing the Taos Pueblo houses and over to the riverside that separates the two parts of the Taos Pueblo for questions and answer session.
Our guide , Katie, was very informative about the history, culture, and current status of the Taos Pueblo and residents. After the guided tour, we were able to visit the grounds and cross over the river to the other Taos Pueblo village. There are artist and craft shops open that sell plenty of nice hand crafted products and paintings. There are also quite a few stray dogs wandering around but they are very quite and do not bother visitors.
It is definitely a nice place to stop for a guided tour and to get the opportunity to appreciate one of the largest multi-level adobe pueblos that is in existence today.
