点评:My first experience of watching a Shakespeare play, and I'm so glad I chose this one. Absolutely fantastic. Right from the moment I arrived (15 minutes late, unfortunately), the Security Guard on the door was polite, cheerful yet very professional (as a retired Army Sergeant Major this is very important to me). Then a very pleasant lady checked my ticket and took me to my seat, shining a torch on all the steps and possibly trip hazards along the way. I was very impressed with the way she took her time and made sure I was able to get to my seat safely.
The seat I had booked two weeks earlier was the only empty seat in the house, and right on the front row, too. I was originally concerned that I might have an impeded view of the stage. But this was not the case. I could see the whole stage perfectly. There was plenty of space between my seat and the one next to me, and lots of leg room too. The seat was comfortable, and I could clearly see all around me.
The show itself, A Midsummer Night's Dream, was excellent. Even though I had missed the first fifteen minutes of it, and had no prior knowledge of the plot, it was made extremely easy to follow by projecting each players lines on to various parts of the set on stage using large colourful letters, in different fonts and styles. I really enjoyed this, and thought it an excellent way to ensure all members of the audience could follow the story and were made to feel a part of the show.
The Actors themselves really looked like they were having fun, and enjoying playing their parts. I was so close to the stage that I felt like a member of the cast myself. Absolutely wonderful.
The play was over all too soon, and the whole audience gave the cast a much deserved standard ovation.
On leaving the seating area the Theatre was extremely well lit, and I found the walkways to be more than adequate in width for an easy exit.
If I could change one thing about the evening I think it would be to have some, maybe all, of the cast members come out to the café/bar area, in their costumes, after receiving their applause, to meet some of the audience. I think this would make the evening even more special for both actors and audience.
But what an absolute pleasure to have attended the play. And thank you so much to all of the Staff, crew, and everyone behind the scenes that made for such a wonderful evening. You really did entertain this otherwise grumpy old soldier. Thank you!
