Monumental Post Office, relict from the British era in central Lahore
General Post Office Lahore的点评
点评:Built in 1887, this historic British colonial style post office on Mall Road looks more like a palace than an office. At the time the mail was essential for communication. Within the British empire of course vital for keeping the colonies manageable. A world with internet as we know it now, was still far away. When you enter the building, it feels as if you are going back in time. Dim light, wooden counters, rather quiet, people in function doing their well prescribed jobs. One wonders for still how long. Denmark was the first European country where recently the mail disappeared altogether.
Architect: Sir Ganga Ram who designed so many other buildings at the turn of the 19th century. For example also the nearby Lahore Museum.
