点评：Good Times in the Badlands! We went on a road trip in September 2026 to see four national parks, including Badlands in South Dakota. We drove here from our accommodations in Rapid City and found the national park to be lovely and worthwhile. The scenic drive offered views of the colorful zebra striped hills. We stopped at several parking lots along the drive to stretch our legs on some short walking trails, including the Fossil Exhibit Trail, Window Trail, Door Trail, and Cliff Shelf Nature Trail. The first three trails in this list are more like ten minute loops - flat and easy. They do not have any shade. Signage is informative. The Cliff Shelf Nature Trail actually has some elevation gain and is a hike with stairs. I reckon that hike took about 45 minutes, including time at the top for photos and enjoying the views. We saw animals, including big horned sheep, herds of bison, and oodles of prairie dogs. Our only regret was not being here at sunrise or sunset for better photography, but nonetheless, I am very glad we went here.
