点评：I visited Cape Wickham links mid December 2025. My first time playing the course.
Go Golfing organised a week long itinerary which entailed 6 courses across Tasmania and King Island. They saved the best till last.
I played early Sunday morning and it was very quiet. Just the sound of the waves. The view from the clubhouse is astounding. Cape Wickham links has the most spectacular of settings that few golf courses can compete with.
I played off a golf handicap index of 10.5 which entailed a 12 handicap from the second hardest tees, the white tees. Slope rating was 137.
At 5774 metres long, the course is not the longest by any means. Its biggest defence of course is the wind and the penal rough. Compared to Ocean Dunes, Cape Wickham is more forgiving in many aspects.
Only a very light breeze all day which meant scoring was easier and I shot 85 even though I lost four balls and took 34 putts.
Most of the greens are of a generous size and there are plenty of subtle breaks. The carpet fairways were in excellent condition. Unlike the dry, yellowing fairways of Ocean Dunes, these were a pleasure to hit off. The downhill ninth hole is a real thrill and I managed to hit a 342m drive there.
Nine of the holes skirt the ocean and you will feel close enough to the water, that it’s tempting to stop for a swim. The seventh requires a tee shot over the water taking on the stiff westerly from the ocean.
The clubhouse is intimate and very friendly. I enjoyed a delicious linguini afterwards.
I only saw two other groups all day so there is no pressure to play quickly.
This was an extremely fulfilling experience and it’s not hard to see why Golf Digest rank Cape Wickham as Australia’s no 1 golf course.
