点评：It’s hard not to love this place. The fishing is great, the scenery is something else, and the bailiff is a genuinely nice fella too.
As with anything, winter fishing can be hit and miss, but we still did well. They also provide a trolley for you to use, which was honestly a blessing. Just make sure you’ve had your Weetabix in the morning because it’s not an easy walk with all your gear!
You can buy 25 screw-in pegs from the bailiff for £10, which is cheap enough. They do take their toll on your fingers, but you’re not allowed to bring your own screws and washers—that’s the rule, and we’ve got to respect it. Local food options are spot on: we had something from the kebab house and it was lovely, and McDonald’s is only about 1.5 miles down the road, which becomes very handy. If you’re on the right-hand side of the lake, there’s also a convenience store just a short walk through the housing estate.
Bad points—not many, to be completely honest. However, the toilet situation is something else. I can deal with a port-a-loo when it’s functional, but walking in and seeing the bottom open with the deposits from previous anglers was rough. As mentioned, McDonald’s is down the road—treat yourself to some food and a proper toilet break. Another point is the boardwalk. As you’d expect, it gets slippery, which is fine, but it’s also very mossy. A good scrub with a hard brush would make it much less of a slip hazard.
Overall, this place is brilliant and I will 100% be back. It’s just a shame about the facilities. If they could put in a proper toilet block, it would take the venue to another level.
