点评：An unexpected, delightful thing happened last Thursday. Two of my adult kids and I were exploring San José del Cabo during the weekly art walk, and entered a shop with an eye-catching exterior, to be greeted with warm hospitality by a lovely woman, the designer’s mother, who offered us cold drinks and made us feel very welcome. And then… visual entrancement. All three of us generally prefer gold to silver, and all three of us love beautiful stone and gems. We had stepped into wonderland. Designer Jonathan Sanchez grew up in a jewelry-making family - his uncle’s gallery is right nearby - but other studies took him to Italy. While there, Italian gold-smithing captivated Jonathan and he immersed himself in studying the techniques and artistry, and then, when he returned home, worked with local artisans to be able to create pieces as he envisions them. The outcomes are stunning. I had absolutely no intention of buying anything when I went in the door. I visit many art galleries and workshops without buying anything. Only one other time in my life have I instantly fallen madly in love with a piece. And it happened here. In all honesty it could have happened multiple times in Jonathon’s shop, his eye for stones and design is exquisite, but I mentally closed that door. We also found a stunning piece for my daughter who wasn’t with us. Jonathon has pieces in a range of styles and prices. Some pieces are limited run, and his couture line is one-of-a-kind. He creates backings for some gems that add pattern, depth and interest to the gem itself. The next morning my daughter commented on how my face lit up while trying my piece on, and that she’d never seen that before. (She also asked if she could have it when I’m gone. Hopefully she won’t rush the acquisition!) If you enjoy artistry, craftsmanship, beauty, and lovely warm people, do not miss the opportunity to visit this shop. I expect this will be a long relationship between my family and his.
