点评：I do not enjoy unnecessary stair-related character development, yet here we are.
My human dragged me up the famous 199 steps to Whitby Abbey. I didn’t count them because I’m not an accountant, but I can confirm there were enough steps for my human to start questioning their life choices. I paused frequently to look majestic. My human paused to wheeze.
At the top, even I stopped sniffing—mainly out of shock. The views over Whitby and the sea are outrageously good, and the Abbey is huge, spooky, and clearly designed for dogs to feel like ancient guardians of something very important that no one fully explains.
Dog-friendliness gets five paws. People said “hello,” told me I was handsome (correct), and provided top-tier ear scratches. Human experience gets four paws. They survived. Growth occurred.
Helpful wisdom from someone with a tail and common sense: go early unless crowds bring you joy, be careful if the steps are wet, bring water because hydration is not optional, and keep dogs on a lead near the edges unless you’re hoping to test gravity.
Final verdict: the stairs are rude, the view is unbeatable, and I would absolutely do it again while pretending I wouldn’t.
