点评：Our experience with Freeman’s Safari in the Masai Mara, was a memorable one, and we found ourselves agreeing with many of the points already made by other TripAdvisor reviewers. This is a unique operation that offers a very distinct kind of trip.
Freeman’s is solely managed by the 80-year-old Brian Freeman. Despite his age, he handles the operation and has gathered a great team of local Masai staff who facilitate the accommodation and drive the safari vehicles. The Masai drivers and staff are excellent, working hard to ensure guests get as close to the animals as possible.
That focus on the wildlife is central to the experience here. Brian’s firm view is that a safari is less about luxury accommodation and more about getting out onto the plains and experiencing the animals firsthand. If you share that philosophy, you will appreciate the setup. The accommodation is a notch above basic but adequate, and while the catering offers no choice, the food was consistently good and well-prepared.
It is worth noting that the general maintenance of both the vehicles and the accommodation does reflect the advancing years of this Mara Legend and owner. Brian believes that any shortcomings should be viewed in the traditional safari spirit of "make do and mend." While it requires a bit of patience and a flexible mindset from guests, it does give the camp a rustic, old-fashioned expedition feel.
For logistical planning, keep in mind that the booking process is a bit old-school as well. Freeman’s only accepts payment via bank transfer to Brian's private African US dollar or sterling accounts.
If you are looking for five-star luxury, this might not be the right fit. But if you want an authentic, no-frills safari with a great local team in the heart of the Mara, Freeman’s delivers a solid experience.
