Great new route: Larne, Northern Ireland to Douglas

点评：We travelled return on the new Larne to Douglas route. We understand this route will operate all year round using a conventional ferry. This is excellent news, although very disappointing that a fast ferry will be lost. Who wants to spend 5 hours getting to the Isle of Man?
Everything went to schedule. I think there were some teething problems at Larne, although this is to be expected as the new route beds in.
You board the vessel by gangway in Larne (NOT the covered passenger walkway). Parking is free AT THE TIME OF WRITING because the carpark is undergoing upgrades. This will be chargeable once the upgrades are complete. We parked our car at the terminal with no issue.
I’d recommend arriving early for check-in. Some departures are close in time to the departure of P&O to Cairnryan so things can get a bit hectic.
Larne Harbour Train station is situated inside the ferry terminal - ideal if you’re travelling by foot.
Crossing time on the Manannan was about 2h 20m with us, so extremely fast. The weather was good and the seastate calm.
Outside deck space is good with one rear observation deck and one on top of the vessel (accessed from the Niarbyl reserved lounge)
The ship is clean, with good food and drink options onboard. We usually upgrade to 1st/Club Lounge when travelling by ferry, but felt this not necessary on Manannan. The option is there should you so wish.
The small shop onboard sells Manx kippers and Manx cheese!! Good to know if you want to bring some produce home!
I don’t get seasick, but if you do, remember to sit in the middle of the ship where motion is less.
Drive time from Larne Harbour to Belfast is about 20 to 25 minutes (may be longer during peak times). IMO, the switch from Belfast to Larne should not put any travellers off as onward connectivity is great by road and rail.
It’s also ideal if you wish to travel onwards to Scotland.
