点评:Despite the 4.30am bus pick up, this day was the highlight of my trip to the Red Centre! We brought pillows on the bus and slept until 6.30am.. I woke to this beautiful orange glow on the horizon as the sun was about to rise! We stopped at a cattle station (I think!) for an amazing buffet breakfast! Bacon, eggs, baked beans, hash browns, sausages, toast, coffee, juices! It was so nice! We began our rim walk at 9am and the first part of the walk is very challenging. 500 steps up. We did them 200 steps at a time, resting in between. It was hard but I was determined to do it! Slow and steady! The guides were so patient and allowed everyone time for each stage. Once up there, the views are spectacular! We did stop along the way where there were shady bits to rest and have a drink The guides provided a wonderful commentary along the way and the scenery was just breathtaking. So many photo opportunities and the canyon is insane! It was a 37° day so I went through 2 and half litres of water. The terrain is not as rocky as the Valley of the Winds hike but very Challenging for a 56 year old who isn’t quite as fit as I used to be. I opted for a rest instead of going down to the Garden of Eden. After that point there is another hour of the walk ahead of you. I found this part the hardest because there is very little shade along the way and by this time the sun was very hot… the steps down to the car park seemed like they were never ending but the guides didn’t hurry you.. I certainly did it at a slow pace - I was pretty exhausted by the time I reached the bus but so proud of myself for completing it. 3 hours all up to complete the hike but it was well worth it! After we completed the walk we were taken to the Kings Canyon resort where we jumped into the pool for about 40 minutes! It was so refreshing and just what I needed after I thought I was going to pass out in the latter stage of the hike. I opted for no lunch as I was too tired from the hike. We had a few snacks to keep us going. I slept of the bus for about an hour after we started heading home… the stories told by our guide Jessie were funny and entertaining! A 700km round trip! Wow! A long day but so worth it!
