点评:We booked a two night stay at Forsinard Lodge as it was close to the RSPB Reserve. The hosts, David and Janet, together with Adrienne, were very friendly and informative about the area. The room was comfortable and well decorated, with non-working vintage cameras as part of the décor – as a nod to their main business of Wild Arena Wilderness Photography. Although it was July, there was a heater in the room, which was useful in the late evenings (this is North East Scotland in “the summer” after all!) The en-suite shower was good and, for a 150+ year-old property, everything was as “modern” as could be. For the first evening, we took advantage of their home-prepared food (soup, salad, chips and a cheese pasty all very reasonably priced and piping hot). As we had been out hiking in horizontal wind and rain for the day, our clothes were soaked through. Janet kindly arranged for them to be put into their “drying room”, so they were ready for wearing the next day. The weather meant that the midge problem was reduced, but there were ticks in the area due to the red deer and sheep populations roaming the moorland. Breakfasts had to be ordered the evening beforehand and were cooked to order from local produce. Everything was so good that we asked to stay for an extra night (luckily the room was available, as they were then fully booked for the following weeks). They have gift items for sale from local artists. Thoroughly recommended – especially as “the Flow Country” has just been awarded World Heritage Status by UNESCO.
