点评:This place is located in Panmure, an inexpensive part of South Auckland. And, the restaurant reflects it.
Bare bones decor, a "third worldish" toilet. Flies swarming around that owners had placed mosquito coils in strategic places in hopes of shooing the flies away. But they were not phased by the toxic fumes meant for mosquitos. We were suffocating from it and had to request owners to remove them.
Now the food. The menu is limited but a good sampling of Malaysian food. I have sampled different restaurants in the Auckland area. Sri Makhota in Bursewood, Papa Riche in downtown and Botany, Bunga Raya in New Lynn, Nonya in Howick Village to name a few.
We had high expectations from the reviews of Chef Joe's selections. We ordered over 10 dishes. Beef rendang, stuffed tofu, sambal shrimp, ikan bakar (sea food platter), goat curry, sambal kangkong, nasi leak, nasi kandar, coconut rice.
The beef in the rendang was not tender and lacked some seasoning that makes rendang a wow dish, the tofu was not stuffed but instead the stuffing were mixed with the pieces of tofu. But that is not an issue. The sauce was not tasty. The sambal was overpowered by the dried shrimp. After sampling all the dishes, I must say the nasi kandar and nasi lemak were the best choices as everything else began to taste almost the same. So salty and msg loaded.
