A Dreadful Disappointment
高尔夫球场区的点评
点评：March is high season for golf in Tenerife. It is expensive, golfers expect the best.
I have played Golf del Sur many times over the past 20 years, so was looking forward to renewing my acquaintance once more.
We started out on the spectacular North Course, and were surprised and disappointed to find the greens in an awful state, diseased and with some very crude patching.
Turning to the beautiful Links Course, we were aware that the new owners had made some changes.
Oh dear.
The perimeters of the course have been grubbed out, the feeling of playing in an oasis of calm has gone, as has the privacy of homes bordering the course.
The lovely verdant greenery off the fairways has been replaced with acres of ugly volcanic rubble, intersected by seemingly miles of concrete buggy paths. In many places these areas of rubble have narrowed the fairways, but they would destroy a wayward golf ball (even if you could find it!).
And who wants to play golf in what looks like a building site?
Many of the tees have been changed, certainly making the red tees easier but far less fun (and I say this as a 25+ handicapper).
Worst of all, on two of the holes (5 and 8), there are fences ( yes, fences) along the fairways. It means that you are unable to weigh-up your second shot. To play it, there is a long walk from the buggy, clutching a choice of clubs in the hope that one of them will be correct. It slows down play and removes the enjoyment of the hole.
It is so sad. What used to be a magnificent 27 hole golf course has been reduced to this. I don't expect we'll be returning.
