点评:This restaurant has one star in the Michelin book, so our expectations were high, but I am very happy to say, we were not disappointed.
First of all, Hert is situated on the 18th floor and has amazing views over Turnhout and we were very happy to get a table on the terrace, which was perfectly sheltered from the sun.
My wife ordered the ‘traditional’ 3 courses lunch menu, whilst I ordered the 4 course less traditional lunch menu.
From here on we were blown away, as the amuse bouches started
There were 5 in total, which consisted ofNorth sea crab, mussels, North sea shrimp, goose liver and salmon and the taste of all of them, were like a little piece of heaven. Then the bread trolly arrived and we were served bacon fat (to which you add a little brown sugar), some very smooth French butter and brioche bread (later we got some sourdough bread as well). It was delicious!
My wife’s traditional lunch consisted of a beef tartare, the fish sole (and the most amazing mash, that we have ever tasted) and finished off with Dame Blanche. It sounds traditional, but it was anything but
My menu was equally delicious and first course was Hamachi fish, that by the table was sealed by a very hot piece of coal, which added an amazing smokey flavour. Next a langustine served on a bed of beef redang , which added a spicy flavour, then summer venison and last peach melba.
I had the wine pairing, which was perfect. The wine choices were different and very interesting, but most importantly they suited the flavours perfectly.
Most of the staff were very attentive (all though they often forgot to fill our water glasses), however there was one waiter, who appeared as he wanted to be anywhere else than at his work - but this could not ruin our experience, as this has been an amazing experience
