I booked a shared charter for myself and 3 of my friends directly though the company’s website, but it was cancelled due to weather (completely understandable). I received an email stating my sail had been cancelled and that I had been issued a gift card to use with the company to rebook. Shortly after receiving that email, a person named Sean left me a voicemail asking to call him back to figure out if I wanted to reschedule or receive a refund.
I called him back and gave him my first and last name and asked for a refund to the credit card I used to book. Sean proceeded to tell me (in the most condescending tone like he couldn’t believe I had the audacity to return a voicemail that he left me) that someone from my group has already called and we have already been issued a refund. I told him that can’t be right because nobody else in my group has called and the only email I have received indicated that I was issued a gift card. He told me that was not true, and gave me the name of a woman who he insisted was a part of my group who he just spoke on the phone with. I told him I do not know anyone by that name and that I would just like to ensure I get a refund, but he continued to interrupt me and insist that I was a part of this other group “because my phone number’s area code was ‘423’ just like everyone else who has been calling him.” As I was telling him he was incorrect and that was not my area code, he abruptly hung up the phone on me. (The phone I was calling from and used to book the sail had a completely different area code) Several minutes later, I then received an email saying my sail was cancelled and a refund would be issued to my card.
I’m sure the sail itself is great and others who work for this company are pleasant people, but unfortunately that was not my experience. I understand it must be annoying having to deal with cancelling a whole day of sails due to weather, but the least you can do is not be a complete jerk on the phone just because you made a mistake.
