点评:We visited the Park today aware that because of "Covid" the Park management kept the visitors center closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. Okay, but since our travels rarely put us down I-85, we'd give it a go thinking visiting such an historic site would still offer a meaningful experience.
What a sad state of affairs. Yes, the bathrooms were open but that was the highlight of the visit. There is a very nice trail but neither the available brochure or the touted cell phone tour correlated with any markers on the trail. And with no orientation available, it became a disappointing waste of time.
I've been a lifelong fan of our National Parks but it is time for a recockning. First, various administrations must stop adding to the inventory of Parks. I recall when our current President was the VP under President Obama, he convinced his boss to create by executive order the First State National Historic Park which consists of six nice but somewhat insignificant historic sites (forgive me friends in Delaware for making the emphasis). The main reason he gave for creating this new NPS property that ran from Wilmington in the northern part of the state to Lewes in the south was because Delaware was the only state without a national park. Geez.
Also, it's time for the National Park Service to join the American people and move beyond Covid.
Forgive the rant, but this is the first time in visiting National Parks over thirty years that I have been truly disappointed.
