Comfortable hotel with an excellent wine list
Gourmet & Wine Hotel Austria - 4 Sterne Superior - Ski in Ski Out的点评
点评：This is a typical 4 star superior rated traditional Austrian hotel which we are familiar with. Quite well positioned to access the slopes (Piste 6) from where you can easily reach Hohe Mut and Rosskarbahn gondolas and the T bar in the other direction (but perhaps not if you have never skied before).
It is a comfortable hotel with good size public areas for relaxing especially after dinner. All staff are lovely and helpful. Particular mention has to go to Zotan, a great character, friendly and knowledgeable with the wines and a good sense of humour.
We stayed in a junior suite (202) which was a good size with a balcony benefitting from the afternoon sun and mountain view . Furniture, furnishings and bed were all comfortable. The mattress was a little soft for me but that's a very personal preference. Limited products and no body lotion which I have come to expect in such hotel category. Water on arrival. Our daughter had a single room which was compact yet had sufficient storage space. We did see a standard double room and considered this to be smaller than we would be used to given the hotel rating.
Snacks offered in the afternoon from 3.30 were average ( in comparison to other places we have stayed in this category).
The spa facilities are quite good, the outdoor pool is on the small size. There are treatments also available and I would recommend booking in advance: wish I knew the lady who did the full body massage as it was excellent.
The evening meals are five courses and beautifully presented with quality ingredients. I particularly enjoyed the extensive salad buffet.
I appreciate supplying table water (albeit "from a glacier") comes with a cost however I do feel 4 euros a bottle is a little excessive. We have not encountered such a charge in other Austrian hotels for, basically, tap water but am aware it is common in some restaurants to charge a nominal fee.
The wine list, this is where the hotel excels, is extensive with a good range of prices to cater for all budgets. The list is more of a large book with an index to help find the relevant page. There is an interesting and good selection of Austrian wines which we enjoyed.
The ski room has lockers, (same number as your room) and easily contains two sets of skis, boots, helmets. Great to put on warm dry boots the next day. You need your locker to open and close the door (a little fiddly initially but you get used to it very quickly. We had to help out several other guests open the locker)
On balance a good stay, we had a pleasant, happy sojourn here. There was nothing outstanding and also nothing to induce us to return given the competition in the village. Our reservation is we have stayed on numerous occasions in the same category hotels in Austria before, and these offered more and better in terms of facilities, little extras, board etc than this one. Although nothing to complain or be concerned about it didn't quite meet our expectations to warrant giving this hotel an excellent rating.
