Miserable and mean spirited hospitality
Gourmet & Wine Hotel Austria - 4 Sterne Superior - Ski in Ski Out的点评
点评：In the interest of balance, I should first acknowledge the positives - great play room, babysitting service, fabulous spa area and family rooms in the Residence were helpfully split so the kids slept in the living room. Martin our waiter was a star.
That’s where the positives end, sadly.
Despite the warm Austrian decor, the hospitality from the owner and his management was cold and mean spirited, to the extent that it actually spoilt our trip.
I was born in Austria and was ashamed by how unfriendly the hotel was - the older female manager looked in horror at our children as we walked by. The older male owner stared at us with suspicion: never said hello, or welcome, or enquired about our trip and our comfort levels. We were large group that had spent more than £25k collectively to be away and I can only imagine the owner of this hotel has become complacent and contemptuous over the years.
Then there was the food… the servings were so small we all went to bed hungry on the first night. On the subsequent nights we filled up on bread (baked from frozen and ran out early in service one night). The oerpurposing of last nights leftovers into the next night’s soup or starter undermined confidence in the entire offer.
The kids food was rubbish - frozen ultra processed chicken nuggets, fish fingers, frozen soggy veg. Inexcusable. Considering they paid adult prices the value was appalling. The salad buffet was limited and meagre. Don’t ask for an omelet or eat the scrambled egg…it’s all the cheapest kind of egg from a carton.
We stayed over the road in their annex. It was noisy - you could hear people walking around upstairs…and the rest. It was on the road (swept noisily at 7am each day, earlier on Saturday). The link to the hotel and pool was through a cold dark underground car park. The pool was quite some walk away. Not ideal.
If you’re torn between this hotel and the Alpina, definitely pay the extra and go to the Alpina!! We had a fabulous experience there last time and wish we’d booked it again this time. Shame.
