点评:Booked our reservation weeks in advance, as we knew Fairchild has recently received a James Beard Award and is very busy. The only way to book reservations is online -- nobody answers their phone and they state that you can email them or leave a message in the online booking comments section. Per their instructions, we left comments in the online reservations that we could only eat outdoors for health reasons (immunocompromised person in our party...they DO have a history of outdoor patio seating) and that we could NOT use the reservation if it was not outdoors. The week of the reservation we made *three* attempts to call to confirm whether outdoor seating was available (they say in the reservation website to do this if hoping for an outdoor reservation), but AGAIN -- nobody answers their phone so there is no way to connect with staff from the restaurant. When we showed up the evening of our reservation, it was clear there was no outdoor seating; we went in to check with the hostess, who told us she 'had no record of us wanting an outdoor table,' but somehow still had a record of there being a birthday in our party -- which was all part of the same note in our reservation... needless to say, we did not stay because we could not use our indoor reservation.
The food may be lovely - and we don't blame them if they cannot currently accommodate outdoor dining because they are too short-staffed - but the communication was simply abysmal. It is unacceptable to refuse to communicate with customers, and it shows a level of arrogance and lack of customer service that is extremely off-putting. There are plenty of other great restaurants in Madison, WI (including other James Beard finalists!) that are more deserving of peoples' hard-earned restaurant dollars; we encourage Madison diners to look around and think twice before getting star-struck by Fairchild.
