点评:In NYC for a post holiday extended weekend. Thought we’d try a place we wouldn’t typically get at home and picked a Spanish place near our hotel, Alcala. And we were fortunate to enjoy a wonderful, relaxed with a knowledgeable server who made wonderful recommendations. He also shared a bit of the story about the place and his family. We elected tapas for the evening, but they seem to have a good selection of Spanish entrees if you don’t want small portions. We had meat/cheese charcuterie with tomato rubbed bread, shrimp in sizzling garlic sauce, two types of croquetas, marinated anchovies (which were particularly awesome), meatballs in sherry gravy, a delicious Galician winter soup that was just made (but not on menu yet), and yummy dessert too, Tarte de Arresse and wine poached pear with house made rice pudding ice cream. Wonderful flavors, good variety, fresh, nicely paced/presented. And with a glass of sangria, this wonderful meal came with a check that was fairly priced (especially for being in the City). Our server’s confidence, attention and friendliness made it worth us planning another trip when we come back to the City again sometime soon. Thank you Alcala!
