点评:Located in Haleakala National Park on the island of Maui, the Pa Ka’oao Trail (also known as the White Hill Trail) is a short (0.4 mi/0.64 km) but steep up-and-back trail found adjacent to the Haleakala Visitor Center. My wife and I hiked this trail in mid-October 2024.
The trailhead is located just off the large parking lot near rest rooms and the Visitor Center. The trail begins to climb right from the beginning. NOTE that the trail is quite rocky is certain spots, so appropriate footwear is strongly recommended. Also, the trail is completely exposed; i.e., there is no shade. The trail has a 154 ft/47 m elevation gain, which is actually quite a bit on such a short trail.
The trail ends at a viewing area that gives you an interesting perspective of the Haleakala Crater. While it’s not a particularly hard hike, the elevation gain and sometimes-rugged footing make for an invigorating and fun climb.
