点评：I recently visited Katz in the Galleria for a birthday dinner with a large party of 10. While the food and overall atmosphere were great, the experience took a disappointing turn when we received our check.
I paid for a group of six, and the other two couples in our party paid separately. What caught me completely off guard was the automatic gratuity fee that had been added—without any prior notice. Nowhere in the restaurant, on the menu, or even on Katz’s website is there any mention of a gratuity policy for large parties. On top of that, our server never once mentioned a gratuity would be included at checkout.
As someone who believes in tipping well for good service, I left a generous tip—unaware that 18% had already been added to my bill. If it wasn’t for my sister catching it, I wouldn’t have known. I had to go back inside to request a partial refund on the additional tip, and honestly, they should have refunded the full amount.
Even more frustrating, the two couples in our party were also charged separate gratuity fees—$10 and $11 respectively—even though we were all part of one table. In total, Katz profited about $86 in tips from our group, largely due to the lack of transparency.
I won’t be returning. Good business is based on clear communication and respect for the customer. Surprise fees and poor communication don’t reflect well on any establishment, especially one positioned in such a popular location.
