点评:I had had El Zarape in the past many years ago, and it was good back then, so when we were hungry for Mexican food while out shopping, we decided to drive over to El Zarape.
I noticed that they don't have their sign anymore out front, so if you're not a local, you may not even know that this is a restaurant!
I was there with my husband and my 7 year old on a Saturday around 1pm. It wasn't really too busy. (That should have been a red flag.) We walked in and just stop by the front door as we weren't sure if it was seat yourself or wait to be seated. One lady who worked there just kept glancing at us, but she never said anything to us. Finally after a few minutes, a lady told us we could sit wherever we wanted.
Our waitress was nice and took our drink order. Drinks were brought out about 5 minutes later. We were given chips and bean dip (which just tasted like bland refried beans and picante sauce (not salsa) that kinda tasted store bought. Chips were unsalted. Our order was taken quickly. We decided to get the chicken fajita quesadillas as an appetizer. I had the chicken fajitas for one with corn tortillas. My husband had the beef flautas, and my 7 year old had the chicken strips and fries from the kid's menu. We didn't have to wait too long for our food.
The quesadillas were good, but there wasn't very much meat considering they were $12.99 for the chicken fajita ones. My fajitas were not even sizzling when they were brought out. They weren't very hot either. They were just warm. Corn tortillas were not homemade which is a disappointment for a Mexican restaurant. The tortillas were only lukewarm at best. My fajitas didn't even seem like fajitas. It was just a chicken breast cut up with some sauteed onions. They were bland. My beans were warm but bland. My rice was cold and bland. My husband's beef flautas has no seasoning. It was just minced beef with no salt and pepper. His rice and beans were cold. My 7 year old did like his chicken strips so there's that.
Service was good though. That's about the only redeeming quality. Our drinks were constantly filled up.
Unfortunately, we will not be back. It was way too expensive for such a bland and disappointing meal. For a kid's chicken strip meal, chicken fajitas for one, beef flautas, a fajita chicken quesadilla, a water, a kid's soda, and an adult soda, it costed about $55. I could have cooked better Mexican food at home. So disappointed with what El Zarape has become. =(
