点评:If you driving in the direction from Marysville to Matlock, this is on your right hand side... the sign to say "The Big Culvert" is on the left hand side and there really is no indications of what you will see when you stop here from the roadside. There is no formalised carpark, so once again, you need to park on the verge and walk.
From the sign, on the roadside, it is literally only 50 metres away... I considered whether I should do the walk considering it was raining, but curiosity got the better of me and I made my way down the track. Not too far down the track - about 25 metres there is an information sign, from there ... there is no clear indication which way to go. BUT if you head downwards back towards the road, you will locate the culvert.
The walk is really pretty... abundant, lush ferns and tall eucalypt trees line the path.
The Big Culvert is a historic granite and bluestone arch along the Yarra Track, a major route to Melbourne through the 1800s. Built in 1870 and a major piece of infrastructure for its time, the heritage listed culvert allowed water to flow under often-flooded the road. It was one of five built - this being the largest.
I had to step through water to enter the Culvert but that seemed a very natural thing to do. I was fascinated by this... so I would recommend a stop.
