点评：Our family of 4 gives Bela Lisboa RAVE reviews! My children (ages 17 and 12) are picky eaters. My husband and I consider ourselves foodies. I chose Bela Lisboa because it consistently receives 5 star reviews and the menu is fabulously different from the usual. This restaurant is perfect for couples, families, business meetings or groups celebrating something special. If you have physical disabilities, this restaurant is very accessible.
The restaurant is in the heart of the historic area, near Coolidge Park. The restaurant itself has a romantic feel, with lots of candles. There is plenty of space between tables, which was a relief to us since our son uses a wheelchair. We didn't have to weave him through tight spaces between other patrons, which is always a concern of ours. There is a handicap parking space in the lot next to the restaurant, so it is easily accessible. The bathroom was also accessible and clean (according to my husband).
Our waiter was Brazilian, so we were confident with his suggestions from the menu items we were considering. He is great with pairing wine with any of the courses as well...extra bonus. If you choose to have a cocktail, there is a menu for those as well. Before we ordered, the waiter served a small basket of sliced bread. It is toasted with a bit of garlic and butter and comes with an olive hummus. It was very good, and just the right amount because you'll be ordering more food. As an appetizer, we ordered the mussels with garlic, bacon and sun-dried tomatoes. We all loved these, and our waiter brought more toasted bread for us to soak up the sauce.
We ordered 2 small servings of the seafood bisque, and a small spinach salad with citrus vinaigrette. The seafood bisque was fabulous and had just enough kick added to it. You could literally see chunks of lobster, crab and shrimp in there. Thank you for that, Chef. It's a pet peeve to order seafood bisque and only get the puree. The salad was very good also.
For dinner, we ordered the paella, a Picanha skewer, which is top sirloin served with potato and grilled summer squash, and the black truffle lobster and shrimp pasta.
The steak was my daughter's favorite. They cook it to your liking, which FYI, should always be medium rare. The portion is generous, don't be fooled into thinking the skewer is American-style. The summer squash was cooked perfectly, simply seasoned with a bit of cheesy goodness on there. There is a garlicky potato, but the star of the skewer is the steak. The paella was wonderful, with a mix of seafood like shrimp, clams and mussels, chicken and chorizo. My only disappointment was that the chorizo was so small and thinly sliced. I almost missed it. It didn't detract from the paella, but I felt myself wanting more chorizo. Lastly, the black truffle lobster and shrimp pasta, was fabulous. There was nothing lacking in this dish, and was my son's clear favorite.
We did not order dessert, but our waiter brought us a sample of white Port, which was soaked with cherries and vanilla, and it was so delicious that we ended up buying a bottle of that to bring home.
If you are visiting from out of town, please come to Bela Lisboa. The locals certainly don't know what they are missing. Why isn't this restaurant full of people?! The food, service, atmosphere and location are outstanding!
