点评:This is a unique place: everyone has seen pictures of or visited romantic-looking 19th century engine houses in Cornwall, but this is a preserved 20th-century mine. There is a lot to see: highlights for me are the dry (where miners changed before and after shifts underground) and the mill, where ore was turned into tin-oxide to be smelted. The mill is *enormous*: a huge machine in a series of buildings running down the hill to the sea.
One of the best things is that many of the guides aren't guides: they're people who worked here and can tell you, first-hand, what it is like. There are regular talks which are really interesting. This time I spoke to Colin and Vaughan, who were both very happy to answer my idiot questions.
The café is good. You can walk from Geevor to Levant mine, an older mine with a working beam engine, and there are many really nice walks along the coast and above Pendeen.
It's a large and quite steep site and the mill has plenty of steps (all with handrails!).
You should allow several hours, and it would be easy to spend a day here. It has never been unpleasantly crowded when I have been there.
