点评：I won’t lie, we’d never heard of Helston, living as we do, in the midlands. We decided to stop there for a meal after a drive around the area exploring. It was a pleasant surprise, nice town, lovely surroundings and a shopping street worth a good amble up. Bang in the middle we chanced upon the Coinage Hall. It’s a Wetherspoons pub, one of the ever-growing chain.
It was a Saturday afternoon, and the pub was very busy indeed. We were lucky enough to find one of the last vacant tables and settled in while we waited for the curries we’d ordered. Despite the volume of customers, the food arrived quite quickly, delivered by a smiling member of staff who appeared to be enjoying her work. Either that or she was an especially good actress.
The curries were exceptional, considering the bargain price paid. I’m not entirely sure what the chicken madras had in it, but it was sensationally spicy and taste bud paralysingly hot. I’ve eaten the same meal many times before and enjoyed it every time, without noticing it being particularly hot. That one, however, turned my mouth into a furnace and my stomach into Vesuvius. The next day our bathroom would be our own personal Vesuvius. My wife assured me that the Tikka Masala was very, very nice indeed and wasn’t threatening a toilet apocalypse the following morning.
Despite the impending doom that threatened my digestive system, the meals were excellent, and we left The Coinage Hall happy with our visit.
