点评:This was my first visit to Joey’s Chicken Shack. I was in the area looking for something different for lunch when I saw their sign from the highway. I chose to forego a stop at any of the chain restaurants and stopped here. I really wanted to love Joey’s Chicken Shack since it appears to be privately owned. I like to support small businesses.
Upon entering, two things caught my attention. The first being stuff sitting on the right-hand side of the restaurant. It was confusing with the chicken stuff sitting there for sale. The second thing that caught my attention was all the staff was STILL wearing face masks.
I endured listening to the staff try to explain the menu through their face masks in spite of me giving them permission to remove the masks for my benefit. I took the suggestion of four chicken tenders and fries which cost over $13 WITHOUT a drink. Even in today’s market, this is expensive. My hope was that the food would be awesome. After a short wait, my food was ready. I was handed a Styrofoam container and pointed to the table with plastic utensils, and condiments. Obviously, I had to gather my own napkins, etc.
While I was gathering my napkins and ketchup, I asked about the face mask requirement. It seems that the owner is living in fear of losing his business from an outbreak, so he is putting his business fears above the rights of his workers. I disagree with this business model.
My meal included fair portions. There were four chicken tenders as ordered. They were fresh out of the fryer and had a decent taste. I would return for the chicken tenders if they weren’t so expensive. The fries were a disappointment. They were chewy instead of crisp. The fries were also darker than I am used to. I’m wondering if the oil was old. Maybe on a different day the fries would have been better.
I’m disappointed with my visit and feel the quality/quantity of food did not equal the cost of the food. If the staff experience was better and I didn’t have to endure the masked communications, I may give this a second chance. If your prices are going to be high, you must have extraordinary food. My advice is to focus on your food and not your fear if you want to be successful.
