点评:We arrived at midday and started our tour with the water wheel and other machinery
all being looked after by a dedicated volunteer who was very knowledgeable on the mechanics and the history of the water supply to the house - the Hydram pump as was installed in 1897 to supply the house and these are still being made today and used worldwide with only 2 moving parts !
He was so interesting to listen to and his enthusiasm spilled over
We then had a picnic and soaked up the sheer beauty of the trees and surroundings before a guide tour with Jim who was exceptional with his witty remarks but also his depth of knowledge on the superb Chippendale collection and Library
Some of the rooms were simply breathtaking - there are other borders Castles and Stately Homes which come very close .
We finally moved through the great hall where rehearsals were taking place for a recital in the evening - her voice filled the space with such clarity and hope to catch
some of your music events next time .
The pre house tour displays was also excellent with a sensitive approach to links with West Indies - the video , photos and paintings in the upper gallery were very moving .
We then took the path down to the Tweed towards the Union Bridge
This was overgrown with thistles at some points but to our surprise a team from Borders Council was strimming their way through this as they must have started the day at the bridge and we met them at 5pm - they were still cheery about it so can you please thank BC for doing such a great job .
We ran out of time to walk in the woodland garden so we will be back again soon
We are so privileged to have such beautiful places to visit
Many thanks
