点评:I was itching to get to the new M&S, and Daddy wanted a new pair of shoes. He is 93 years old, and I was delighted that they had disabled parking outside - he can't walk far. Anyway, he fancied a little bite to eat, so we went up to the new cafe. We got there around 11.45am and there was quite a queue. Daddy didn't know what he fancied and said he'd go have a look but, of course, you can't look, because nothing (except some cakes) are on view - everything has to be ordered .......... and ordered by way of a self-service machine, which there are eight of! Eight machines that you have to stand at and select what you want.
The machine I queued up to use was playing up - it took me ages to keep pressing the keypads. And, don't get me wrong, I am only in my 50s and am used to machines, but it was so frustrating. And, all the while, Daddy was sitting alone, wondering what the hell was going on. I must have been at least 15 minutes. You then take a buzzer, tap in the number of the buzzer, which you take to your table, and you wait until it flashes - then your food gets delivered!
Anyway, I ordered the selection of 'classic sandwiches' and 'seafood sandwiches' with a hot chocolate and a tea. They only have option for skimmed milk or semi-skinned - oh and oatmeal and a couple of other choices, but Daddy likes full-fat milk. Anyway, I quickly ran back to the table. There was food on the chair, mess on the floor - it wasn't nice. Staff were trying their best, running backwards and forwards. Don't get me wrong, they were great and hard-working, but you could see people complaining!
I shot to the toilet, and found an elderly woman queuing. She'd wanted to eat in the cafe, but decided against it, as she felt embarrassed - she was in her 70s, and couldn't use the machines. She said there was a girl there, who was helping, but she wanted to see what she was ordering, so she walked away.
When I returned to the table, the food and drinks had arrived. Both the tea and hot chocolate were luke-warm, but I must say, the sandwiches were delicious and came in a little package, which Daddy was pleased about, as he only eats half a sandwich and was able to take the other half away.
By the time we left, there must have been 20 people in the queue. There were now two girls helping, but it was still so slow!
Come on M&S, think of your loyal customers. The customers who have been loyal to you for years and years, many of them of a certain age, who have shopped with you 'forever'. They can't use those machines and not a lot of elderly people have debit/credit cards and like to pay by cash. I know the world is changing, but bring back some tills and show your goods, so that people can see what they are ordering, except having to look at a screen.
I write a lot of T/A reviews and very rarely write a bad review, but I felt the need to write.
Such a shame! All a shambles as far as I am concerned! Think of your loyal customers, please.
