点评：Pevensey Bay really needed an artisan bakery and this is the real deal – the owner of Poppy Seed Bakery, who have just taken over the Ocean View, has won a number of prestigious national awards for baking. My test of a decent bakers – check out their sourdough, and the croissants. My sourdough loaf was really good, just the right balance of texture, crustiness and flavour. Their plain croissant was also great - light, crumbly and buttery, just like it should be, whilst their almond croissants are to die for. Honourable mention to their delicious iced cinnamon buns too. I’m going to be working through their entire range at this rate. Forget about the negative review below about café service – it was made during their first day of opening when the place was mobbed with café customers and you could hardly get through the door. I saw their friendly staff continuously apologising for delays which I could see must have been unavoidable – it’s all a lot calmer now, and staff are really friendly and helpful and happy to talk about their lovely bakery products. Quite a contrast to some of the patisseries in Brighton I’ve used in the past. I haven’t tried the café yet but looking around the customers all seemed happy and satisfied and there’s a nice-looking outside area to sit in the back too. Can’t recommend this place more highly.
