点评:This location has two elements. The Trout hatchery history of the site and the tower walk.
The site is open and accessible - landscaped grounds, a climbing area and access to two eateries, picnic tables and free parking. As well there is a tiny building with a docent and illustrated history of the fish hatchery - which might not sound exciting but is well presented and illustrated. And the docent is friendly and knowledgeable and obviously enjoys sharing the info. The buildings on the site and the walled streams are original to the hatchery which started in the 1930s. All this is free. The site is also along the bike path and easily accessible.
The paid portion is for the access to the tree walk, tower and gift shop. It is a little pricy but the cost also supports the municipal partnerships that manages the historical site. The very solid raised wooden path leads upward at a gentle incline of 6% with several educational kiosks, etc along the way leading to the tower which is quite substantial but seems well constructed and disturbed a limited amount of forest area to build which was nice to see. The top has a number of small metal markers pointing to the distance and direction of various landscape features as well as Canadian cities. The multiple layered net in the center of the top level was quite appealing for all ages and has limited sway due to the thickness of the rope and reinforced connections.
We enjoyed a leisurely walk and picnic and felt it was money well spent. We were surprised at the lack of directional signage on the highway or towards the location itself. We thought it was a hidden gem.
