点评:Where to begin? Asanja Ruaha gave my husband and I the best experience of our lives! From the start, Ajay in the office answered all our questions while booking, and when we missed our connecting flight, he was available and helped us rebook our local flights even though it was late on a Saturday night.
The location of Asanja cannot be beat; some of our favorite wildlife encounters and sightings were right at the camp thanks to its location on the river. While lounging at our room we had a whole family of elephants walk right by; while eating breakfast we watched the impala and water buck drink from the river; while watching the sunset we saw baboons and buffalo. Some nights they even made a fire for us as we sat under the incredible stars. The rooms are big and comfortable, sleeping with all the fresh air felt so good, and the food was delicious and plentiful. We were always so full!
We were so happy we came to Ruaha instead of the Serengeti. We saw only a handful of other cars each day and most animal encounters were all to ourselves. Thomas, our guide, is an encyclopedia. He knew everything about the animals from social and eating habits, gestation periods and lifespans, to the incredible diversity of birds and the local geology. We were happy to see it all. Safari is not a zoo, and no guide can magically produce incredible animal sightings hour after hour, but Thomas always made sure we were learning something, even if it was about the trees or termites (which are crazy!). And we were also lucky enough to see everything we hoped for--lions, elephants, giraffe, zebra, kudu, warthogs, buffalo, eagles, owls, even a leopard, and so much more.
The last evening we went on a walking safari with Prosper the hotel manager, who was extremely knowledgeable and also had incredible experiences working in west Tanzania with the chimpanzees and Jane Goodall. We were kept safe by Rafa, the onsite Massai and always felt protected and in good hands. We loved getting know everyone on the staff--they are all incredibly kind, dedicated and thoughtful people. It's not an easy job living in the bush, being away from families for weeks at a time, but it really felt like they've created their own family at Asanja, and we were so happy to be part of it for a short while.
