点评:My husband and I intended to go to Schnitzel's, which is in the same shopping center as Luca. We put ourselves on the wait list for Schnitzel's and walked down past the other stores, and that's when we found Luca. We called Schnitzel's to take ourselves off the list, and decided to go to Luca instead, as we were able to get a table right away and without a reservation.
It's a lovely, contemporary atmosphere. My husband and I each went with the three-course entree for $79. The calamari appetizer was different and very tasty. My husband's pasta appetizer was delicious and better than my basil pesto pasta appetizer. (There was simply not enough basil flavor for me, as it was extremely mild.) There was a very long wait between the pasta and the main entree, about 40 minutes, so by this time, we were getting antsy. I had a New York strip steak. It was fine, but it didn't seem quite like the same cut of meat I'd get at Pace's or Vintage Steakhouse. My husband had a veal chop, which was not cooked well and very fatty. They did replace it with a much better piece of meat the second time around (and rather quickly, too), so that was good. HOWEVER, my biggest complaint about Luca is that I had asked the waiter, Joseph, for a wine recommendation. He gave me his top pick, but he did not tell me it was $34 a glass!! And I had two!! Needless to say, I was floored when I saw the bill. I asked him about it and he just said, "Yeah, that's the price of it." Yes, I probably should have asked him the cost (because there were no prices on the menu), but I figured it could be no more than $18 to $20. But if I'm specifically asking for a recommendation, then the right thing for the waiter to do was say to me, "I'm recommending this wine. However, I should tell you it's $34 a glass." I've had many waiters take this approach for things that cost much less than this. And yet I still tipped very well. The meal ended up costing us $330. Based on principal, we will not return to Luca.
