点评:We spent a month travelling Zambia and loved it, until we reached North Luangwa River Lodge. We were assured that this would be the highlight of our holiday and sadly it was the worst experience we had and not because of the remote bush experience that we were actually looking forward to, but because it was sold to us under false pretenses. We paid premium prices, not only to enter the park which, together with the mandatory bed levies amounted to USD125 per day, but also for staying on a 'self catering' basis of USD400 per night at the lodge (USD200 per person) ! Nothing at this lodge warrants this exorbitant price charged. Self catering to us does not mean sharing the very basic facilities that the staff use at the back of the lodge in very dirty surroundings ! The lodge is very run down and no care has been taken to provide just the basics. Even the staff battled to open the door to our room, which had to eventually be forced open and closed. Missing blinds across the window meant be prepared that there was not going to be any lie in. Both so easy to rectify and fix and yet it's almost as though no one cared or could be bothered. If you wanted to take a shower, you needed to inform a staff member who would heat a bucket of water and carry it through your room to fill up the bucket in your bathroom so don't expect any privacy either. We were camping for a good part of the month we were travelling and are happy to rough it but what leaves a bitter taste in your mouth is when you feel ripped off and this is exactly what we left feeling. Despite our request for Brett to shed light on our experience or even acknowledge any of our correspondence, he has failed to do so and that makes matters worse. If you are offering a rustic, authentic bush experience that is fine but don't charge luxury lodge prices when doing so and make it very clear to your visitors what they can expect. I agree with a previous review that if it's wildlife you are hoping to see, don't bank on it. Apart from hippos, the wildlife is very scarce which I believe is as a result of the many years of poaching in that area which has left them very skittish. Don't waste your time travelling up north, the roads are extremely bad, directions are dodgy and you would be better off staying down in South Luangwa and also South Zambezi which was the most beautiful part of our holiday experience.
