点评:We added this to our day trip to White Sands from Ruidoso on the recommendation of Kevin at Backcountry Attitudes. It did not disappoint. Just $5 to access this BLM managed site, but we needed cash and exact change to make it happen. There was an attendant at the site but he did not have access to the visitor's center. Maps were available outside. There are bathrooms and a water fountain in the parking lot, which is tucked back off the access road. The half-mile trail is accessible directly from the parking lot. The climb is moderate (easy for someone in shape), with stair-step rocks but no hand holds. I would have liked a hiking stick for some extra balance. You can see some petroglyphs very early on the trail, but they increase in size and frequency the farther you go. The site overlooks a spectacular agricultural valley that was filled with midday dustdevils during our August visit, A water bottle and a wet bandana kept things reasonable for out-of-shape, 55+ me, but I opted to go only about halfway before getting out of the heat. I could see spending a couple of hours there in cooler weather. There is also a historical village site on the grounds, but we opted to skip that.
