点评：As a Travel & Safari Specialist for Africa, I had the pleasure of visiting Klaserie Drift Misava Camp on a site inspection for potential clients. What a memorable experience it was at this top-tier property! I only stayed one night, but it was more than enough to recognize the magic this place holds. Here are the highlights:
🌿 Location, Location, Location!
This property is tucked away in a beautifully wild and remote corner of the Klaserie Private Nature Reserve. The reserve shares open boundaries with the greater Kruger National Park, allowing wildlife to roam freely while maintaining the exclusivity of fewer lodges and vehicles. This creates a quieter and more intimate safari experience than what is typically found in the mmore "active" parts of Kruger.
🏞️ Lodge Setting & Design
The lodge is perched right along the Klaserie River, which flows year-round. Positioned high above the river, it genuinely offers what I believe to be the best views anywhere in Kruger. The pool deck and lunch area overlook this stunning river vista. During our stay, we watched a group of male elephants, a large journey of giraffes (nearly 10 in total), and a “dagga boy” male buffalo enjoying a proper mud bath. All of this enjoyed from the comfort of the lodge, before we even embarked on a game drive.
There are several dining areas designed for different occasions. The bar and boma, where dinner is often served under the stars, provide a warm and rustic ambiance, while the lodge also offers an indoor dining space for inclement weather. The décor strikes a beautiful balance between contemporary elegance and vibrant African charm, with bold pops of color throughout. A lovely curio shop on site features handmade artwork and pieces from local artisans, giving guests the opportunity to take a meaningful piece of Africa home.
🛖 Accommodation
I stayed in one of the Garden Suites, specifically the one with the best partial river view in this category (this room name is called "Khwati"). These cozy, rondavel-style rooms feature charming thatched roofs along with a spacious ensuite bathroom with a large tub, indoor and outdoor showers, and thoughtful touches throughout.
What truly stood out were the small details that showed care and creativity. From the curated snacks and drinks to the framed information placard with helpful details like Wi-Fi info, safari schedules, and laundry instructions, everything was thoughtfully considered. The rooms are also equipped with air conditioning, ceiling fans, and plush, comfortable beds.
I had the chance to view the River View Suites as well. These rooms are larger and enjoy more direct river views, though they offer similar amenities to the Garden Suites. The lodge is also in the process of expanding with the addition of several two-bedroom villas, each with a private plunge pool. These are expected to be completed later this year and will be a fantastic option for families and groups.
🚙 Top-Tier Guiding
I was fortunate to be guided by the incredible Roan, who brings nearly 20 years of experience in the safari industry. His background spans everything from guiding in the Sabi Sands to guiding in the Welgevonden to lodge and reserve management. His expertise and calm confidence in the bush were immediately apparent. His tracking ability is top-notch, and he has an excellent instinct for vehicle positioning and building anticipation during sightings. Roan knows exactly when to share interesting insights and when to let nature speak for itself, creating a beautifully balanced experience for guests.
🦁 Incredible Sightings in Just 24 Hours!
Despite my short stay, the wildlife encounters were outstanding. Highlights included:
🌟 A female leopard feeding on a kill in a tree, soon joined by two hyenas
🌟 The same female leopard interacting tenderly with her 16-month-old son, which is quite rare as cubs are usually independent by this age
🌟 A male leopard leaping from a tree after losing his kill to a large male lion, who then carried the carcass off to hide in the bushes
🌟 Numerous giraffe and herds of relaxed impala grazing nearby
🤝 Warm, Welcoming Hospitality
The warmth and attentiveness of the staff truly made a lasting impression. Brenda, the front-of-house host, radiated positivity and made us feel instantly at home. Cliff, our main server, offered impeccable service with a strong and engaging presence. I also appreciated the staff’s beautiful blue and patterned attire, which was both stylish and full of personality. Every staff member we encountered was gracious, friendly, and committed to making our stay memorable.
🍽️ Delicious Dining
Meals we’re a delightful fusion of local flair and fine dining presentation. Portions were generous yet well-balanced. A highlight for me was the lunch on our first day, which included grilled beef kebabs, crumbed chicken lollipops, and a couscous side dish. The selection of small chocolate desserts struck the perfect balance (not overly sweet or indulgent). As someone who doesn’t usually eat sweets, this was a lovely treat. The fresh fruit spread in the morning was equally delightful, and my poached eggs were cooked perfectly to my preference.
💰 Outstanding Value for Money
The camp is an excellent choice for travelers looking for a refined safari experience with high standards of service and hospitality that matches its price point. At the same time, it retains an intimate, small-scale charm and offers an authentic wilderness atmosphere and experience. Whether you are a first-time visitor to Africa or a seasoned safari traveler, this property offers remarkable value and unforgettable experiences.
