Expedia confirmation from 8 months earlier ignored

点评：I made reservations for four at this Econolodge in February (8 months ago) and received a confirmation number. Arriving to check in on 10-7-2023, we were told that they were all sold out and that our confirmation number meant nothing. Nearly every hotel room was sold out as well.
It is only later that we were told by border patrol that the city of Las Cruces was housing immigrants in the hotels and paying them more than what they would receive from third parties such as Expedia.
They had a 'too bad, can't help you attitude' and sent us on their way. When we stayed at a different Econolodge in Santa Fe, our confirmation number was valid and they were irritated but not surprised by our experience in Las Cruces.
Beware of booking in towns near the border (El Paso & Las Cruces) because hotel rooms are being used to house migrants and the money is too hard to turn down by the hotel management.
