Serene spot in Clark City
首都山丘套房酒店的点评
点评：Had a weekend getaway with family north of Manila. Was looking for a place to stay that's near SM City Clark, and decided to stay at Capitol Hill.
• Room
— Our Deluxe Twin Room room was clean and at the 2nd floor, which was quite nice because part of the hallway is like a balcony overlooking the hotel lobby. There are two twin beds, desk with chair, long counter useful for all your stuff, higher counter (with kettle, coffee/tea, bottled water), small refrigerator with freezer, and wall-mounted TV. A closet with layers of shelves near it is present. The TV was kind of a downside as it couldn't pick up channels properly, that we could only watch 2 or 3 channels. Other channels had horrible reception. Room was generally clean, but we found a couple of small cockroaches roaming about the counters. There was a fly or two as well because they aired out the room with the windows open before letting guests in. The windows were still open a bit when we arrived.
— The bathroom is spacious with toiletries and towels. Spray bidet is also available. The toilet paper was quite cheap though that you'd need more layers because it easily disintegrated. The shower is a plus though as it's a rain shower head. Water pressure is good.
— Our room was facing the back of the hotel, but we still had a window. Considering we were at the 2nd floor, our view was a couple of small 2 to 3-storey structures. I think every room has a window with sunlight, but the higher the floor the better the view.
• Dining
— Buffet breakfast was available on the roof deck. The breakfast has limited choices and could easily run out and make diners wait a short time before they're replenished, but they taste okay. There is a counter/bar where you could order other food items. The guest next to us ordered ice coffee. I'm an indoor person, so I wasn't too happy with this setting, especially considering how hot it is here in the Philippines. There was also light rain during our breakfast. It wouldn't be nice to dine here when the rain pours even if the dining area is partially roofed.
— There is what appears to be a closed dining area at the hotel lobby during our September 2022 stay. It's the Oval Cafe according to their website. Would've been nice if it was operational as I like coffee and sweets.
— If you'd like to dine at a different restaurant, it would be quite some walk before getting to the main road Don Juico Avenue. It is lined with different dining choices.
— One thing we did instead was order food, a lot of it! If you have access to Grab and Foodpanda, there's a wealth of restaurants you can order from and have them delivered to the hotel. I certainly enjoyed this tons! Remember how I said I like sweets? Food delivery satisfied my sweet tooth with all the bakeries around.
• Service
The friendly staff were helpful and provided hospitable service.
• Hotel Facilities/Amenities/Atmosphere
I always look for a swimming pool when choosing hotels. Capitol Hill has one at the roof deck. I wanted to make use of it, but it opens at 8am. I prefer swimming before breakfast so there is no one around. Wouldn't want to swim there with all diners' eyes on me and after eating breakfast. It's an infinity pool with lovely blue walls and flooring, which makes it very inviting though.
Apart from the pool, they have function rooms for meetings and events that can seat 100 people. There is also a gym available.
As for the overall atmosphere, since it's a street away from the busy main road, it's quite a relaxing staying here. It's peaceful seeing Pampanga early in the morning from the roof deck.
And as the Philippines has the longest Christmas in the world that starts with the -ber months, a Christmas tree display was already at the lobby, which we appreciated.
• WiFi
We had free WiFi bu I can't remember how its speed was. I was also using my on mobile data.
• Parking, Drop-off/Pick-up Area
As it's in the inner/quieter part of the area, pick-up and drop-off is easy as you won't need to hurry because of traffic. There is adequate parking space for guests. Quite a bother though when we returned Friday evening and couldn't find a parking space, because there was a social event at the rooftop. The non-staying attendees of the event occupied the parking area, leaving staying hotel guests trying to get a spot.
• Location and Shopping
As mentioned above, Capitol Hill is situated at the road after the main road. It makes for a quiet stay, but a little distant to shops if you go by foot. It's advantageous to have a car, though you can take GrabCar rides if you have a registered SIM card/account. We didn't use them but there may have been tricycles you could ride to go to places in the area. Not sure but try asking front desk if they could assist you with a taxi.
While SM City Clark is near, you'd have to traverse the long Don Juico Avenue before getting to a road crossing to the SM City Clark side. The mall is a great shopping place to go to as it's huge with lots of stores and restaurants. There's also a large supermarket where you could get your needs.
• Vicinity
The hotel is somehow at the edge of a residential area. The nearest 7-Eleven is about 2 blocks away, which unfortunately is not so convenient. There may be a small mom and pop shop or two near the hotel. There also doesn't seem to be any near money changer around. Your best bet would be SM City Clark, or somewhere along Don Juico Avenue, but the part nearer the road crossing to SM.
• Security
The hotel is well-secured with security personnel and cameras.
• Reservation, Check-in, Deposit, Check-out, Luggage Storage
My brother did the reservation through Agoda. My mom also called them up through their mobile phone listed on the site, which is a plus since there won't be a need for provincial landline call fees. I am not sure how much but there was cash deposit needed. Check in and check out was a breeze. There may have been luggage storage if I remember correctly, but we did not use it.
• Value
As mentioned above, my brother did the reservation. I could not remember the room rate, but we felt it was a bit expensive considering how they were lacking in some aspects. We relayed our feedback to the front desk staff before leaving, and I hope they have already improved at this time of writing this review to make it better value for money.
• Overall
Our stay was okay, but maybe it isn't for us as we like to have stuff to do around the vicinity that wouldn't require too much walking. This would be ideal for a relaxing staycation if the pool hours were extended and the TV reception were improved, consdering there's not much you can do.
