点评:Ground Zero Katrina Museum provides a unique view of the hurricane from the local perspective, with a salute to the volunteers who came to Waveland in 2005. The museum is low key, providing food for thought. The 20-minute video offers oral histories from survivors interspersed with authentic photos and footage. The museum is housed in a 1927 schoolhouse which in itself provides memories. A very interesting part is the water line painted at the top of the room indicating the height of the hurricane waters. It’s a small museum, nothing flashy except the hurricane simulator – stand inside and feel the hurricane force winds up to 70 mph. I enjoyed looking at a small display and book depicting the dozens of quilts constructed from remnants of fabric found after the hurricane by a survivor. Though not part of the museum, the Sugar Pops bakery in the former auditorium is a delight!
