Awesome place, people yelling at each other too much.

点评：Wonderful beach experience- BUT- as a local this is for visitors- Currently this is an OFF LEASH DOG PARK from 7-10 am then 6-10 pm. 10 am-6pm this is on leash only.
What that means is morning and evenings- DO NOT BRING YOUR MEALS AND DINNER DOWN TO THE BEACH TO PICNIC. The dogs aere very nice, but many of them don't understand human etiquitte when it comes to plates being held RIGHT AT DOG LEVEL.
For off leash dog times (not daytime) There are nice picnic areas in the main central park area, where dogs are not allowed to run free. You, your food and your child's PB&J are safe away from the beach.
I have seen visitors (out of towners) literally trying to start fights with dog owners whose dog took a bite out of their 4-year-old daughters' sandwich. I have seen people sit down for a romantic cheese and crackers plate, and a dog gently come up from behind and hoover up the snacks. The pizza begging is intense as well.
There is Olive Beach just a mile south of Kirk Park, no dogs allowed. There is Port Sheldon Beach just a half mile past that- no dogs allowed. This is the only dog beach south of Muskegon and North of Benton Harbor.
I just don't want people unhappy, meals to be ruined, and tempers to flair when people are yelled at who are following the rules. And God for bid some poorly socialized dog hurts a child some day. The county does a poor job of informing people, and the signs are not noticeable to one-timers.
Other than that, if you own a Dog, this is paradise for you and them!
