点评：We had not been to Rock’s in a couple years, and as everyone knows who summers up here, the excitement is huge when a nice place with any ambiance opens, does well, ultimately survives a few seasons. So after an hour’s drive from Manistee in which we told our family members how great it was based on our previous experience, 3 of our party of 5 ordered burgers, all “medium,” and they all came to the table VERY well done. My sister ordered wiener schnitzel. ALSO overcooked. I had the vegetable provencal, which was lovely once you realize the very tasty tomato sauce is hidden beneath what at first appears to be bare vegetables. My meat-free meal was the clear winner.
You might expect such amateur meat treatment from a far less expensive establishment on their worst night, but not at one that charges these prices and generally has great reviews. When the owner asked on our way out how the meals were, my husband was candid with him and he did offer to comp the meals. But honestly that never really works. We will not make that drive again soon. And our visiting family will not be anxious to return for another attempt.
Our waitress was wonderful. The reno of the lakeporch, very nice— in fact we wish we’d known it had been so beautifully windowed in our absence because we’d have preferred sitting there instead of in front of a fireplace with no view whatsoever. For those of you who have trouble hearing in a din, this is not a good table for you. Sit anywhere else.
A side observation: it is not a great business visual when the owner sits for your entire meal at the entrance podium looking at his phone.
