点评:Now with new owners, and in the waning (hopefully) pandemic time, the restaurant can get back many of its once loyal followers. The Ye Olde Tavern is a local historical inn, not large, but also one of the few places around with a liquor license, so it has a captive market. That can be either an endless opportunity for excitment, or used to exploit.
The previous ownership was (in my opinion) letting the menu and kitchen capability really go downhill, It was no wonder the reviews and local attendance seemed to drop off. Funny thing is their weekend Prime Rib dinner never seemed to falter that much in quality....strange.
It is a pleasure to see new life in the old dame of this area.
Some of the menu is familiar, but the new chef is adding a nice variety of eclectic meals, and the bar has added some new craft beers and specialty drinks. The interior decor has been spruced up a bit, realizing there is a limit to what you can do to an historic property these days. They have added nice folk-art type pictures and center displays for a better, homey, feel.
My wife and I stopped in for a late lunch mid-week, as the facebook pics from customers was looking very interesting and with good comments. We ordered their taco chips with cheese and beef topping, and a steak quesadilla to start. The taco plate was large, with a super amount of cheese and toppings. Long story: would order again. The quesadilla was good, as its always a nice appetizer, and they do re-heat well at home if you take any back home.
My wife had the Shepherds Pie, and she liked it a lot, and that is one of her favorite "to try" orders so see if she likes an establishment. I had the "Shanghai Noodles" and it was flavored just right with curry (which can easily be overpowering), wide egg noodles, other mild spices, shrimp and chicken.
I'm a martini (gin, of course) fan, and would rate the dry martini I ordered an A-. Not bad, not bad at all.
Our server was great, and knew how to handle the tables, and make our drinks, too. Thank You, Courtney P.
As with many restaurants, I've lived the "Item not available, limited staff, please be patient" vibe, so I try to be very accepting of little issues that may happen my way. For today's visit; no problem, whatsoever.
That all said, I realize it is a huge struggle in the Covid era to stay afloat in a small town area here in central Mass., to keep good and trained staff, high quality meal selection, and offer great value, oh, and make a buck, too!
Here's hoping they continue to offer a change-up with foods on a regular basis, keep the quality up high, and we'll keep going back every two weeks for a nice couples meal.
