点评:Having not been in the North Adams-Williamstown area for several years, my wife and I were looking for a pub-type place to get lunch. We had never noticed this place before (maybe it's new within the past several years?), but we stopped in. The entrance is a bit hard to find. The restaurant itself looks like it might be accessible via the Stop & Shop parking lot, but it's not. You have to go down the side street right next to the restaurant to find the entrance. The parking seemed plentiful enough and the lot was covered in a nice crushed stone, so no mud to be found despite the rainy weather lately.
There is an indoor dining area, nicely separated from the bar, an outdoor deck, and a stone outdoor patio surrounded and sheltered by some type of flowering trees.
I chose to get the chicken wing appetizer with habanero sauce and a side field greens salad, while my wife chose the fish and chips. The wings were properly fried to perfection. My "side" salad turned out to be huge, easily covering a 12" or so plate a couple inches deep with colorful greens and reds several cucumber slices, and what seemed like an entire diced tomato. I had to have a plan for all this food, do I decided to eat the entire salad (with tasty Caesar dressing) first, if I could, and then move on to the wings. I ended up eating both. The only thing I would have changed is the habanero sauce on the wings seemed more like 95% BBQ sauce and 5% habanero. I'd recommend they up their habanero several notches.
My wife's meal arrived with a good-sized portion of fish on a bed of french fries, with a side of house cole slaw. You can tell when a piece of seafood is fried properly... it has a very light color to the batter or breading, indicating it wasn't swimming in oil and that a light oil was used. And that's what my wife got, and found it very tasty. The fries were a bit much, but no problem. We took them home and I ate them later that evening. I know there are many different types of cole slaw, and I love Montreal-style, but the slaw that accompanied my wife's meal was oddly dry, if that's the right word. It could have used double whatever it was dressed with, but hey, it was a tiny cup and not the main focus.
Our server was prompt and efficient, checking in on us a few times without being intrusive at all. Pricing is a bit higher than average, but for the amount of food you get, it's well worth it. I saw several people ordering burgers. They too were huge and piled high with toppings. I would guess many folks come here just for those.
Those who've read my reviews know it takes a really special place to earn five stars from me. Trail House gets a solid four stars
