Excellent Bay Cruise and Smith Island Visit

点评：in mid-July, Smith Island Cruises took 6 of us on a professionally run cruise across the Chesapeake to Smith Island, MD. The service we received from Point Lookout Marina was as-advertised. Two hours across the Bay, with interesting commentary from the Captain. Two and a half-hours at the town of Ewell, on Smith Island. Delicious lunch at the Bayside Inn. We took home a delicious Smith Island 9-layer cake. Two hours back across the Bay. We were back at our car just after 4:30 pm.
Logistics: Water is for sale onboard at $1 a bottle. Bring your own snacks, bug spray (needed ashore), sunscreen, hats, and sun-wear. There is shaded seating but it's not as comfortable as the sun-drenched decks of the Twister.
Ashore, we opted to just walk the town after lunch, but there are golf carts and bikes to rent to carry you to the other town, Rhodes Point. You can check out the Smith Island museum, post office, and gift shops, and another, smaller restaurant, the Harborside Inn. Residents are happy to see you, and the staff at the Bayside were prompt and friendly. Plenty of room for all, and the seafood is delivered quickly. Great lunch.
I recommend this trip for anyone who wants to experience the views of the Bay, the birds and wildlife on the crossing, and the charm of a special Maryland watermen's town.
