The Knotted Apron的点评
点评：Portland is somewhat short of bistro-style restaurants, so Knotted Apron fills an important niche. While our experience was not quite perfect, we enjoyed our dinner very much and look forward to returning.
For us, it's a plus that the restaurant does not serve the gargantuan portions all too common these days. Of out three dishes besides dessert, two were very appropriately sized and we left clean plates (rare for us). The exception was the foie gras, which was delicious but really too small to share; we each had one bite.
My wife had the mushroom risotto which was perfect, very flavorful and with the proper consistency. My salmon dish was cooked as I requested (not overdone, as I too often experience) and was delicious, though the plate would have benefitted from a green vegetable. Desserts were not distinguished. A lemon posset was ok, but the chocolate cake was too close to being fudge.
We went on a Thursday night, which we learned is hamburger night. This is a popular dish, and it was sold out (at $22!) by 5:45. Cocktails are riffs on classic ones; thus a Paper Plane became a Paper Crane and came with a tiny origami crane on the rim of the glass. Both cocktails were excellent. There is easy parking in front of the restaurant and nearby.
Service is competent and friendly, if not polished. All in all, this was an enjoyable dining experience.
